German PV manufacturer Solarwatt has today (9 June) unveiled a new battery storage product developed in collaboration with BMW.
The Solarwatt Battery Flex is a modular storage device, with the system able to expanded from 4.8KWh to 240kWh through the stacking of up to eight battery packs and creation of up to 10 clusters.
It differs from previous Solarwatt storage offerings in that it is much smaller and easier to install, with CEO Detlef Neuhaus claiming in a press conference announcing the product that “no mistake can be made in installing this storage unit” because the device indicates if it’s correctly installed and there is therefore no chance to incorrectly install it.

Solar is the most popular choice for businesses looking to invest in renewables as part of their decarbonisation strategies, according to a new report from npower Business Solutions (nBS).
In the company’s
‘Plot Your Path to Net Zero - A Focus on Sustainable On-Site Generation’ report, it found that 50% of businesses are planning to invest in on-site generation despite economic challenges.
Due to falling costs and the relative ease of installation, solar proved the most popular choice with 77% of those who have already invested and 66% of those who are planning to invest in on-site generation choosing solar. Businesses are also looking to install batteries and energy storage, nBS found, with numerous organisations looking to combine renewables like solar with storage to ensure a stable supply.

Derry is set to be plunged into partial darkness today as one of the most spectacular celestial events – an annular solar eclipse - takes place.
The event occurs when the Moon comes between the Sun and Earth but the Moon will be at apogee (farthest from Earth) on its orbit so it will not completely block out the Sun.
Viewers of the total eclipse will see a ring of light or annulus around the Moon.
